About the Blue Star Mothers of America

In June of 2007, Jean Casey and Ruth Vollmer formed the Blue Star Mothers of Valencia County. Jean's son was headed off to Iraq, and Ruth's son had already served there. Although there is a very active and much larger chaper of the Blue Star Mothers in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the trip to "town" often proved to be a deterrent to getting together with other Moms whose children are serving in the military.
By forming this chapter in Valencia County, Jean and Ruth have provided community members a place to meet new friends and neighbors who not only support one another through prayers and hugs but also support the loved ones serving in the military with the mailing of care packages.
